The Virginia SBDC network is the most extensive business development program in the Commonwealth.
The network is a strategic alliance between the U.S. Small Business
Administration, George Mason University-Mason Enterprise Center in the
School of Public Policy and local sponsors throughout Virginia. These
vital partners include universities, community colleges, chambers of
commerce, municipalities, economic development organizations and
private companies.

About the Virginia Department
of Business Assistance
The
Virginia Department of Business Assistance (VDBA), created by the
Virginia General Assembly in 1996, provides a one-stop-service for
technical assistance related to business formation, access to capital,
and workforce development. VDBA works with existing businesses as they
grow their workforce and mentors entrepreneurs from ideas to launching
their first business venture. To accomplish the objectives set forth in
Governor McDonnell's Economic Development and Jobs Creation agenda,
VDBA has provided $1.37 million in financing for Virginia businesses,
provided technical assistance to over 16,250 businesses and will host
over 60 Entrepreneurial Workshops statewide this year.

The VDBA is led by Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Trade and Agency Director Peter Su. VDBA is organized into three operational

About the Small Business Development Centers
The Virginia SBDC Network is committed to strengthening Virginia’s
economy by assisting small business. By helping these businesses become
viable and successful in the long term, the SBDC can facilitate
economic development within the areas it serves. Impact on Virginia’s
economy is measured in several ways. Through its counseling sessions
and training seminars, the SBDC strives to create and retain small
business employment, to increase capital investment in area businesses,
and to improve small business sales and profits.
The Central
Virginia SBDC fulfills this mission by providing area businesses with
professional, one-on-one management counseling in a variety of
financial, marketing, and operational areas as well as through
sponsorship of training seminars. The CV SBDC also assists pre-venture
and existing businesses in developing their business plans which
include market analyses, creating financial projections, and
identifying capital needs.

About the Central Virginia Small Business Center
Located in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Central Virginia Small Business Center (CV SBDC) is one of 29
centers across Virginia providing professional business consulting,
training and information resources to help grow and strengthen
Virginia businesses.
The CV SBDC offers free business consulting services, assists with
feasibility studies and business planning, sponsors seminars and
training, and provides information and other services to area small and
mid-sized businesses. The center is hosted by The Thomas Jefferson
Partnership for Economic Development.
The Central Virginia SBDC serves the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Nelson,

Peer Advisory Groups Now Forming!
The CV SBDC new peer advisory program, Business Advantage
Circles, is now accepting applications for membership
Unlike a networking group, this new program provides a
confidential, non-competitive forum for problem solving, sharing
best practices, and, ultimately, contributing to the success of
members’ businesses. Each
circle, which is comprised of up to 8 business owners,
prioritizes issues for the group to address and develops
solutions that can be utilized.
A facilitator assists the Circle and brings in experts as
needed.
Circles help take the isolation of out of ownership; fill
in weaknesses and share strengths; and help the owner manage the
business.
Circles meet monthly for 2 hours.
The fee is $90/month and discounts are available to area
Chamber of Commerce members and other designated organizations.

About SCORE
The SCORE Association is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur
education and the formation, growth, and success of small business
nationwide. SCORE is a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business
Administration.
We have more than 20 counselors in our chapter. We provide FREE consulting
services to both start-up and existing small businesses in our central
Virginia service area which consists of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene,
Culpeper, Louisa, Madison, Nelson, and Orange counties.
