Greene County

Greene County lies in the north-central portion of Virginia just east of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Shenandoah National Park and the Skyline Drive form the western boundary of this picturesque county. The county, although rural in nature, is part of the Charlottesville MSA consisting of four counties and the city of Charlottesville. As a result of its ties to the metropolitan region and its location on the U.S. 29 corridor, Greene County represents an appealing pastoral setting for continued business investment. Downtown Charlottesville is approximately 20 miles south of the county seat of Stanardsville. Richmond, the state capital, is 90 miles to the southeast. Washington, D.C. is about 100 miles northeast of the county.

Greater Charlottesville Area

Charlottesville is the central city of the Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) with a population approaching 200,000 residents. The Charlottesville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) consists of the city of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene and Nelson. The area is centrally located in Virginia in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This area offers an appealing quality of life and a highly skilled work force to complement its excellent interstate, rail, and air transportation networks. The Charlottesville MSA is located approximately 71 miles west of Richmond; 110 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.; and 162 miles northwest of Norfolk.

Washington - Arlington - Alexandria

The Virginia portion of the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is located in the northeastern corner of the state. The area has grown into a leading information and communications center and the home of many international, as well as national, organizations' headquarters. The Northern Virginia MSA is located 50 miles north of Richmond, the state capital, and 140 miles northwest of Norfolk. The entire Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VAMSA has a population of 5.4 million and is the ninth largest MSA in the nation.

Virginia Beach - Norfolk - Newport News

The Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News MSA's strategic, mid-Atlantic location and superior transportation network provide swift access to world and domestic markets. The Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) is situated in the southeastern orner of Virginia. The MSA centers on Hampton Roads, the world's largest natural deepwater harbor. Nine cities and six counties comprise the metropolitan area. A totally integrated transportation network of interstate highways, air, rail, and sea services provide excellent access between the communities of this MSA and the markets of the world. The Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News MSA is 200 miles south of Washington, D.C. and 100 miles south of Richmond, the state capital of Virginia.

Richmond

Richmond was ranked 56th of the nation's 366 metropolitan statistical areas for long-term economic strength by Policom Corporation in 2009. The Richmond MSA offers many business, personal and lifestyle advantages. A workforce of more than 600,000 supplemented each year by 9,500 college graduates, provides the skills and experience needed by advanced manufacturers such a s DuPont and Wyeth, as well as financial service providers Capital One and Genworth Financial. The area's affordability is equally appealing to life science startups at the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park and to ten Fortune 1000 headquarters including MWV and CarMax. Cultural and recreational offerings rivaling those in larger cities and a 24-minute average commute make the area an "easy move" for top level professionals and managers.
