There are over 60 institutions of higher learning, enrolling approximately 400,000 students, within 150 miles of Greene County, of which two-thirds are closer that 100 miles.

Of these institutions marked above, eight are ranked among the top 100 national universities by US News and World Reports and five are ranked among the top 100 national liberal arts colleges. An additional nine institutions in the region are ranked among the top 50 master's universities in the South.
